Baked Apple Cider Donuts


For the Donut Dough

1 and 1/2 cups apple cider

2 cups flour

1 teaspoon baking soda

3/4 teaspoon baking powder

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon apple pie spice*
Don't have Apple Pie spices? Make your own.

1/4 teaspoon salt

2 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

1 large egg, at room temperature

1/2 cup packed dark brown sugar

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup hole milk, at room temperature

1 teaspoon vanilla

*For the Spice Recipe

4 teaspoons ground cinnamon

2 teaspoons ground nutmeg

1 teaspoon ground cardamom

For the Topping

1 cup granulated sugar

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

3/4 teaspoon apple pie spice

6 Tablespoons unsalted butter, melted

*For Apple Pie Spice

(If you can not buy then make your own.)

In a small bowl, combine cinnamon nutmeg and cardamom.

Stir spices and store in a small jar.

To reduce Apple Cider

Stirring occasionally, simmer apple cider over low heat for 20 minutes until it is 1/2 cup.

If there are spices or solids on top, leave them, then set aside to cool for 10 minutes.

Preheat your oven to 350, then spray a donut pan with non-stick spray and set aside.

For the Donuts

Whisk flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, apple pie spice and salt together, then set aside.

Whisk butter, egg, brown sugar, granulated sugar, milk and vanilla together.

Pour wet into dry, add reduced apple cider and whisk together until smooth and combined.

Note: batter will be slightly thick.

Portion batter into a donut pan, use a large zipped-top bag.

Cut a corner off the bag and pipe batter into each donut cup, filling about halfway.

Bake 10 to 11 minutes or until edges and tops are lightly browned.

To test, poke your finger into the top of the donut, if it bounces back, they’re done.

Cool donuts for 2 minutes it your pan then place onto a wire rack.

Re grease the pan and bake remaining donut batter.

For the Topping

Combine sugar, cinnamon and apple pie spice in a bowl.

When donuts are cool enough to handle, dunk both sides of
each donut into butter, then into apple spice topping.

Donuts are best served immediately. Enjoy!
